Crus artisans 2018
Chaque année les Crus Artisans du Médoc à Bordeaux sont une petite dizaine à ouvrir leurs portes. Une occasion pour le public de découvrir des propriétés indépendantes à dimension familiale, chose de plus en plus rare à trouver dans la région. Sur les 13 domaines ouverts pour l’occasion j’en ai visité 5.(Un article allant plus dans le détail de la classification des crus artisans est en projet sur mon blog).
Each year the « Crus Artisans« , a small wine classification of the Médoc in Bordeaux organize an event where is possible to taste and visit many producers. This year, 13 of them were open and I visited 5. A great opportunity to discover independent properties with a family dimension.This aspect is more and more hard to find in the Médoc zone ( A special topic about this classification is under construction for my blog).
Château Dacher de Delmonte, appellation Listrac
Château Dacher de Delmonte est une propriété de 3 hectares dans l’appellation médocaine de Listrac existant depuis 2006. Je fus charmé par la gourmandise du millésime 2015, avec des fruits noirs éclatants et une très belle texture en bouche. L’histoire du blason figurant sur l’étiquette , la fameuse cigogne vigilante est également particulièrement belle. Vous voulez en savoir plus? Château Dacher de Delmonte is a 3 ha property founded in 2006 on Listrac appellation. I was charmed by the beautiful fruits of the 2015. Its dark fruits were shining and on the palate the texture was really beautiful. The stamp with a blazon interested me. It’s the vigilant stork, with a very beautiful story. Do you want to know more? Château de Lauga, appellation Haut-Médoc et appellation Saint-Julien
Château de Lauga appellation Haut-Médoc est une propriété de 6 hectares située à Cussac-Fort-Médoc, entre les appellations Margaux, Saint-Julien, Moulis et Listrac. La famille Brun s’occupe de ce vignoble depuis 5 générations. Ils ont aussi 1 hectare sur l’appellation Saint-Julien où ils produisent « La Fleur Lauga« . J’ai été impressionné par la délicatesse des fruits, et particulièrement sur le millésime 2015. Très belles notes de groseilles et de framboises, un beau croquant et des tannins subtils.
Château de Lauga, Haut-Médoc appellation is a 6 ha property located at Cussac-Fort-Médoc, between famous appellations as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Moulis ans Listrac. Named family is BRUN and today it’s the fifth generation who is currently working in the vineyards. They also have 1ha in Saint-Julien appellation: « La Fleur Lauga ». I was totally impressed by the delicacy of the fruits, especially with the 2015. Very nice gooseberries and raspberries, a nice crunchy fruit and subtle tannins.
Château Micalet, appellation Haut-Médoc, (certifié bio)
Château Micalet est l’ un des rares domaines certifié bio du Médoc, et une famille opérant depuis 3 générations. Actuellement ce sont les frères Damien et Dominique FEDIEU qui s’occupent de la propriété avec leurs parents. Pour les amateurs de fruits croquants et de fines notes épicées.
Château Micalet is one of the rare Médoc wines with the bio certification and a family affair since 3 generations. Now, the owners are brothers, Damien and Dominique FEDIEU with their parents. For the amateurs of the crunchy fruits with a thin touch of spices.
Clos de Bigos, appellation Margaux
Clos de Bigos est une propriété située dans la prestigieuse appellation Margaux. C’est la troisième génération de la famille JAROUSSEAU qui s’occupe de ce vignoble. Un seul millésime était présenté, le 2015, puisqu’avec seulement 2 hectares la production est vite vendue. Ce 2015 offrait un panel épicé, puissant en attaque, avec par la suite beaucoup de fruits et de profondeur. La gourmandise des fruits noirs était exquise. Pas de doute nous sommes bien à Margaux!
Only one vintage presented for Clos de Bigos, the 2015. The property is located on the prestigious Margaux Appellation. It’s currently the third génération of JAROUSSEAU family. With only 2 hectares the production is quickly sold. That’s why there was only a single vintage.This 2015 had a powerful spicy touch on the first impression, and after a lot of fruits and an intense deepness. The beauty of the dark fruits was really great. No doubts we are in Margaux!
Château Pey-Mallet, appellation Haut-Medoc
Château Pey-Mallet est une propriété de 2 hectares située sur la commune d’ Avensan entre Margaux et Moulis appartenant à la famille Albouy. Le propriétaire est une personne passionnée allant très en profondeur dans la visite de son vignoble avec des explications techniques mais très bien expliquées. Dans les vins on retrouvait cette profondeur. Bel équilibre en bouche, une autre propriété à suivre!
Château Pey-Mallet is a 2 hectare property located on Avensan, near to Margaux and Moulis appellations. The family name’s is Albouy. The owner is a passionate person who explains a lot of interesting things, with some technical aspects, but very well presented. In the wines, we refound this deepness. Nice balance on the palate. Another property to follow!
Un dernier pour la route?
Je vous recommande chaudement de vous arrêter au Château Vieux Gabarey en appellation Haut-médoc. Le propriétaire est Mr Serge SAINT-MARTIN. Vous y trouverez son vin mais aussi celui de son fils, Maxime SAINT MARTIN, en appellation Saint-Estephe (Les Graves de Pez),qui n’est autre que le président de l’association des Crus Artisans. Tous les deux font des vins parfaitement représentatifs de leur appellation, et à des prix très corrects. Je m’y étais rendu il y a deux ans et c’est vraiment par manque de temps que je n’y suis pas retourné.
I highly recommend to you to visit Château Vieux Gabarey from Haut-Médoc appellation. The owner is Mr Serge SAINT-MARTIN. It’s also the opportunity to taste the wines of his son, Maxime SAINT-MARTIN with the « Les Graves de Pez » from Saint-Estephe appellation. Maxime is the president of the Crus Artisans syndicate. Both wines are very representative of their appellations and with a good value for money. I went there two years before and it’s only because I didn’t have enough time who I didn’t come back.
En définitive j’aime me rendre dans ce genre de propriétés, certes ce ne sont pas les plus belles du Médoc qui regorge de Châteaux à vous couper le souffle et à la pointe de la technologie viticole. Mais avec les crus artisans le charme de plonger dans l’histoire d’une famille, d’être à l’échelle humaine donne une dimension supplémentaire au Médoc, ou plutôt permet de garder cette dimension au Médoc. Un assemblage d’authenticité, de tradition, de passion. Longue vie aux crus artisans du Médoc !
After all, I like to go to these properties. Yes they are not not the most beautiful of the Médoc, Médoc is full of incredible castles, with an amazing beauty, and all the last innovation technology. But go to the « Crus Artisans » is definitely the best choice to understand the history of a winemaker family, to meet them and to stay at the human scale. And it’s a very important aspect for the Médoc, because they keep this dimension. To conclude, the Crus Artisans are a blend of authenticity, tradition and passion. Long life for the Médoc Crus Artisans!
